In the ever-evolving landscape of global governance, the imminent year unfolds as a nexus of democratic expression and decision-making. With an array of elections set to unfold across diverse democracies and international organizations, the geopolitical stage is poised for significant shifts. In 2024, approximately 70 elections are scheduled across 40 countries, including those within the European Union and the United Nations.

This juncture encapsulates the essence of participatory democracy, as nations navigate the delicate balance between continuity and change. The collective decisions of 2024 are destined to shape the contours of governance and diplomacy.

In strategic consideration of global dynamics, this analysis emphasizes elections in countries with heightened geopolitical impact. Focusing on these pivotal electoral processes is essential, as outcomes in such nations carry consequential ramifications transcending national boundaries.

The following discourse undertakes an exploration of the upcoming electoral panorama, dissecting its potential implications on both local and global scales, and illuminating the nuanced interplay of democratic forces.

2024 US Presidential Election: November 5th

The forthcoming 2024 elections in the United States would have a tough battle between the two parties, amplifying the intensity of an already fervent political climate. The American political landscape is facing a heightened heat, which may lead to instability and unpredictability. As the nation embarks on this electoral journey, the dynamics of power are poised to undergo significant shifts.

The possibility of a Republican resurgence introduces an additional layer of complexity, and it would be interesting to see if Donald Trump rises back to power. Equally strong anti-incumbency surrounds President Joe Biden, and as the election dates come closer, extreme political opinions will circulate around the American media.

The Republicans are yet to declare their leader, and we may see new young faces running for President. Against this backdrop, the 2024 elections stand as a crucial juncture, reflecting the bipolar nature of American democracy. USA's stance on Ukraine and Israel, and the willingness to compete against China will be put to the test.

2024 European Parliament Election: June 6th to 9th

In the impending European Parliament elections of 2024, a discernible political trend emerges, indicating a heightened probability for right-wing and Eurosceptic parties to secure significant victories. As the political discourse centres around issues of national identity and border control, right-wing and Eurosceptic parties strategically position themselves to resonate with a growing constituency that emphasizes these concerns.

Euroscepticism is a criticism of the European Union and the integration of its countries. It emphasizes the belief that EU's policies cause the problems to individual countries, and some extreme believers even stress on exiting the EU.

This electoral landscape is characterized by a palpable surge in anti-immigration sentiments, serving as a potent driving force for these political factions. Recent electoral outcomes in European nations indicate an ascent in support for right-wing and conservative political factions. Should right-wing parties fall short of attaining a majority, they will nonetheless persist as a formidable opposition within the European Parliament. This will strongly influence EU's actions regarding Ukraine, and overall defence spending.

2024 Russian Presidential Election: March 15th to 17th

Russian President Vladimir Putin has no intentions to vacate his seat, and has declared his candidature for the 2024 elections. Putin has prevailed in power for a period of more than 11 consecutive years, not to forget his previous 8 years as the President, and another tenure as the Prime Minister. He would certainly contest and win the seat for his fifth term in the forthcoming elections. No Russian leader except Joseph Stalin has ever managed to retain control for such a long period.

After amending a law pertaining to Presidential tenures, Putin has permitted himself to stay in power until 2036. With absolute control over the media, and little to none capable opposition left in the country, Putin's ascent is definite.

Russia is engraved in a very tedious direct war. Putin's election campaign would focus on instilling nationalist spirit within his compatriots, and direct his country's resources towards sustenance, because the Ukraine war is about to last for long.

2024 Bharatiya General Elections: Est. April-May

The recent victories secured by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in three states underscore a robust resonance of their political views among the electorate. This electoral success serves as a testament to the enduring appeal and effectiveness of the party's political ideology. With opinion polls and the prevailing national sentiment indicating a probable third consecutive term for the ruling BJP, it foretells a continuation of all existing policies.

If the NDA alliance is successful in achieving around 370 seats, it would guarantee a Special Majority to undertake serious Parliament business. For this, BJP has employed grassroots mobilization, organizational efforts, and deep community engagement.

The circumstances for the presumed opposition are becoming challenging. The I.N.D.I. Alliance has yet to designate a leader or announce seat-sharing arrangements.

Conclusion

In retrospect, the year 2024 unveils itself as a pivotal juncture in the evolution of democracy on a global scale. As we navigate the unfolding narratives of governance and representation, the echoes of 2024 resonate as a reminder of the power vested in the hands of the people and the consequential impact of their decisions on the trajectory of our world. The array of elections held within the democracies of the world shall act as a prism, showcasing the various political aspirations, concerns, and vision for the future ahead.
