March, 1919. Exactly 105 years ago, a grand international conference was held in the Kremlin of Moscow, the capital of the then Soviet Union.

This conference was so effective that its impact is still visible in many nations of the world. The group that participated in this conference was considered a member of the Third International, which was an international group of communist forces.

This conference was held in Moscow from March 2, 1919 to March 6, 1919. It was formed by Vladimir Lenin, the then Soviet communist dictator and mass murderer of millions of people, after the failure of the Second International of communist and socialist thinkers.

In fact, when the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU) gained power during the so-called movement of the Bolshevik group in the year 1917, it showed the world a new path to gain power.

Just as the economy of European imperialism began to falter after the First World War, the movement and revolution expanded on a global scale.

During this time, communist leader Vladimir Lenin thought that if communist ideology was expanded throughout the world at this time, it could prove to be a very successful campaign against European capitalism.

With this idea in mind, a radio broadcast was made from Moscow on 24 December in which leftists around the world were called for the Communist International.

Initially this international conference was planned to be held in Berlin, but it was rejected due to the European Civil War and the existence of a democratic socialist government in Germany.

For some time, the idea of secretly holding this conference in the Netherlands was also considered, but this too was ultimately cancelled. After this, considering the dates of January and February, it was decided to organize this conference in March.

The conference began by paying tribute to German communist leaders Karl Friedrich and Rosa Luxemburg. A total of 51 people belonging to 35 parties/organizations from 22 nations were present in this conference which started on March 2, 1919.

The members during this time decided to form an Executive Committee and the Assembly also decided that the Executive Committee will choose a 5-member group which will work on international activities. However this could not happen.

“The main objective of the formation of this international group of communists was to spread the communist ideology across the world, implement a communist dictatorship like the Soviet Union and fight against the so-called bourgeois class.”

With this objective, the communist parties of Soviet Union, Austria, Hungary, Finland, Germany, Poland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Belarus, Ukraine, Netherlands, Belgium participated in it.

Apart from these, socialist and leftist parties from countries like Czechoslovakia, Bulgaria, Romania, Serbia, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, France, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Britain, Ireland, America, Japan also participated in it.

It was only after the formation of this international group that the establishment of communist parties began across the world.

All the communist parties from the Communist Party of India to the Chinese Communist Party and from the Communist Party of Italy to the Communist Party of Spain were established under the guidelines of this Communist International.

For all the communist leaders around the world, the Soviet Union and its dictator Vladimir Lenin were the supreme leaders.

This is the reason why during World War II, when German dictator Adolf Hitler and Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin made agreements among themselves, communist leaders from all over the world including India supported Hitler and opposed the British forces.

Even when Poland was invaded and occupied by Hitler and the Soviets, the communist leaders of India and China stayed away from criticizing it.

Apart from this, when 'Quit India Movement' was launched by Indian freedom fighters in 1942, the Indian leftists had opposed it.

“The reason for this was that when Hitler attacked the Soviet Union, the Soviet Union changed sides and made an agreement with the Allies, which included Britain. This is the reason why Indian communists also started considering Britain as their friend, following the Soviet line. However, this also became the reason for the demise of the Communist International.”

The Soviet Union's participation in World War II along with the Allies was the biggest reason for the demise of the Communist International.

This Communist International lasted only from 1919 to 1943 and then it was abolished. During this period, seven conferences were held. The last conference ran from July 25, 1935 to August 20, 1935, in which 65 communist parties participated.

People of the Communist International were involved in many movements in Europe from 1919 to 1926. However, their objective was clearly to gain power at any cost and establish communist dictatorship.
