The festival of Holi is about to come, during this festival, the security forces deployed in different areas of India also participate in the celebrations along with vigilance.

Something similar happens in Bastar, Chhattisgarh, but the scene after Holi of 2007 was such that remembering it even today brings tears to the eyes.

“After the Holi of 2007, Maoists had carried out an attack in Bastar, a heavily Naxal-affected area of Chhattisgarh, which had forced even the international media to think about the issue. Maoist terrorists had attacked the camp of security forces in Rani Bodli of the then Dantewada district of Bastar division, in which 55 soldiers were martyred.”

This attack was the biggest Maoist attack of that time, which shocked the entire country. The way Naxalism, which was prevalent in a limited area, killed our soldiers, that incident created a stir from Chhattisgarh to Delhi.

Maoist terrorist organization 'Communist Party of India (Maoist)' attacked security forces on March 15, 2007, killing 55 soldiers. Apart from this, 11 other police personnel were also injured. Among the martyrs, 15 soldiers were from Chhattisgarh Armed Force (CAF) and 39 were SPO (Special Police Officers).

After this incident, Maoist terrorists had tried to give a message to the country that they would not allow any peace effort by the government to succeed.

Before this incident, a secret meeting of the top terrorist leaders of Maoists was held in January-February, in which a plan was made to further strengthen the armed wing of this terrorist organization as well as expand its presence in the cities.

The implementation of this plan started from Jharkhand where Maoists first killed Lok Sabha MP Sunil Kumar Mahato on March 5. Maoists described the killing as revenge for the 2003 Naxal encounter in which 11 Maoists were killed.

Apart from this, there was panic in the Maoist organization due to the Naxal eradication program being run by the state government in Chhattisgarh, a major reason for which was that a large number of Maoists in Bastar region were surrendering and becoming part of Salwa Judum.

All these incidents had created so much turmoil among the Maoists that they planned a major attack in Bastar itself. Under this plan, first the Maoists chose the camp of Rani Bodli established by the security forces and did recce of it.

After this, about 400 Maoists reached Rani Bodli on the night of 14 March, where they started their attack after 2 o'clock. The Maoists took advantage of the security forces being asleep after returning from the search operation, and at the same time started firing on them.

During this time, petrol bombs and hand grenades were thrown at the security forces sleeping inside the camp, along with continuous firing.

A resident of the same village says that his two brothers were SPOs, who were sacrificed in this attack. The villager says that on the day the attack took place, he was sleeping in his house, and suddenly there was a sound of gunshots, and when he saw the situation outside, he saw Naxalites all around. He told that the Maoists were opening fire on the soldiers by placing ladders on the wall of that camp.

This entire attack lasted for about 2 hours. Apart from petrol bombs and grenades, Maoist terrorists also used some dangerous modern weapons for this entire attack. Apart from this, Maoists had also used a generator before attacking the camp.

This was such a massacre carried out by the Maoists that it cannot be explained in words. Just 3 days before this incident took place, the soldiers had celebrated Holi.

Today the situation is such that even after 17 years of the massacre that took place in Rani Bodli village, people shudder at the mere mention of it. The picture of this Rani Bodli camp, located just 8 kilometers from Kuturu, has certainly changed today, but the marks of the massacre carried out by the communist terrorists can still be seen here.
