A total of ten Maoists, including three women, were shot down in an encounter with security forces in the Abujhmad area of Chhattisgarh's Maoist-affected Bastar region early on Tuesday.

The encounter took place at around 6 a.m. in Abujhmad, on the inter-district border of Kanker and Narayanpur districts. A joint team of District Reserve Guards (DRG) and Special Task Force (STF) left on an anti-Naxal operation when the encounter took place in the jungle near Tekmeta and Kakur villages.

As per the investigation, two of those killed in Tuesday’s encounter have been identified as SZC members Joganna and Vinay, alias Ashok.

Police were having specific information about the location of Maoist Central Committee member Sonu, along with DVC members Joganna and Vinay and cadres from the North Bastar, Madh, and Gadchiroli divisions. After which, a joint team of DRG and STF was sent to intercept them.

After the encounter, the security forces launched a search operation, and there they recovered the bodies of the eight Maoists. Along the way, they found an AK-47 assault rifle and a cache of other weapons, ammunition, and explosives.

With this encounter, a total of 90 Maoists have been neutralised so far this year, from January to date, in separate encounters with security forces in Chhattisgarh's Bastar region, which comprises seven districts, including Narayanpur and Kanker.

This operation comes days after 29 Maoists were killed in a fierce encounter on April 16 with security forces. Among them were a few high-ranking Maoists, including Shankar Rao and Lalita Meravi, who had a huge bounty on their heads.

The encounter took place on April 16 in the Hapatola forest between Binagunda and Koronar villages in Chhotebethiya.

This was the highest number of fatalities suffered by Maoists in a single encounter in the history of Chhattisgarh's fight against left-wing extremism.

Seeing the frequency of these encounters, it is being made clear to the Maoists that either they surrender or else they will be shot down one by one until it reaches the end of Maoist insurgency, or so-called left-wing extremism.
