A marathon debate on Operation Sindoor in Parliament turned into a political battlefield on the 28th of July, as the whole world lauded India’s cross-border military action against Islamic State Pakistan’s sponsored terrorism following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, while the Opposition parties grilled the Centre and questioned the authenticity of the attack. Where the opposition not just attacked India’s sovereign decision but also attackedthe bravery of Indian soldiers.

The parliament session saw pointed attacks, dramatic rhetoric, and deep divisions by the opposition over what India’s operation Sindoor truly achieved.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar led the defence, asserting that the operation, launched on May 7 and concluded on May 10, was India’s sovereign response to Pakistan-backed terror.

Congress’s response on Operation Sindoor in Parliament

While the whole world applauded India’s success in the battlefield against Pakistan, the Congress MPs stood up in the Parliament against the voice and will of the nation. The Congress unfolded a brazen attack on PM Modi, which was not limited to politics but also led to a tirade on Indian sovereignty, deterrence, and diplomatic stability.

Congress MP from Jorhat and deputy LoP in Loksabha Gaurav Gogoi lambasted a shameful attack on the Indian government and questioned the authenticity of Operation Sindoor. Remarkably, Gogoi is the same person whose wife and children both hold foreign citizenship. And Hemant Sarma, Assam Chief Minister, alleged that “Gogoi can leave India anytime.” Former Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh wrote on X that he is ashamed of Gogoi being from the Northeast. Singh wrote, “Questioning why our fighter jets did not engage at a close range ignores the strategic brilliance of long-range precision strikes that protected our soldiers and ensured that the mission was successful. Ridiculing our brave defenders, who are working tirelessly at the frontline, is not just highly unbecoming of a political leader, but it is a disservice to the nation they safeguard.”

This remark from Gogoi questioning the bravery of the Indian army is shameful, and under this umbrella only, the Congress party is standing only for just cause, making bets over national security just for their political benefits.

Rahul Gandhi’s Blunt Vision

In the parliament, Rahul Gandhi asked PM Modi to call U.S. President Donald Trump a ‘liar’ from the Indian Parliament. This was not just political rhetoric; it was Rahul’s political illiteracy and incapability to understand international politics. Rahul Gandhi was baiting Modi to react emotionally, to rupture the fragile but functional Indo-US equilibrium that the Modi government has sustained with patience and foresight.

The direct confrontation between India and the United States is aiding India’s international policies, especially when India is eyeing becoming the West’s favoured nation in terms of trade after their fallout with China. In fact, even Congress-supportive media personalities like Rajdeep Sardesai called Rahul’s proclamations “bravado,” highlighting that he wouldn’t have done anything he was suggesting if he were the prime minister.

Among all the MPs from the opposition leading the debate against the success of Operation Sindoor, the most commonly used statement by the opposition is that the ceasefire was the result of international pressure; it wasn’t on the terms of India.

But, bringing truth to such lies, PM Modi roared in Parliament and said that the revenge for the Pahalgam attack on April 22 was taken within 22 minutes by India’s armed forces through Operation Sindoor. The Prime Minister said that no leader anywhere in the world asked India to stop its operation. Modi said that the government trusts in the army and was given a free hand to decide the nature of strikes during Operation Sindoor. This statement in the parliament remarks that now the army is no more under the political will of the political benefits and favours. Now the army doesn’t have to be silent to deliver justice to the terrorists.

The prime minister also noted that India called out Pakistan’s nuclear bluff and showed the world that “we will not bow down to nuclear blackmail.”

“Our operations range from Sindoor to Sindhu (Indus Waters Treaty)… Pakistan knows they have to pay a huge price for any misadventure. Terror attacks were launched earlier, and the masterminds of the attacks knew nothing would happen, but now they know India will come for them.”

Modi stated that the Army, Navy, and Air Force executed a coordinated operation that took Pakistan by surprise. He emphasised that Operation Sindoor showcased the strength of Aatmanirbhar Bharat, with Indian-made drones and missiles playing a key role.

In dismissing Operation Sindoor as a “publicity stunt,” Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has raised questions over the intentions of the Congress Party, as his remarks go beyond political rivalry and launch an attack at the morale of India’s armed forces.

Defence analysts and government sources have pointed out that the mission achieved its stated objectives — sending a clear message to Pakistan and showcasing India’s military preparedness and resolve.

Meanwhile, the criticisms from Rahul Gandhi and Congress have not only aimed to belittle the efforts of the army men who risked their lives but also played into the hands of adversaries by projecting internal divisions.
