Security forces recovered a large cache of explosives, war materials, Maoist uniforms, literature and daily-use items during a de-mining and search operation in Narayanpur district’s Abujhmad region on 27 September.
Officials said the recovery took place in the forests near Kodliar Michingpara under Kohkameta police station limits. Acting on intelligence inputs about suspected improvised explosive devices, a joint team launched a search from the Kodliar camp. During the operation, the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) and security personnel recovered explosives, lithium batteries, wires, switches, uniforms, belts, pouches, bags and Maoist literature.
Police confirmed that Maoists of the Kutul Area Committee were likely active in the region and had planted explosives with the intention of harming security personnel and civilians. Officers emphasised that all safety protocols were followed during the recovery, which was carried out with the support of the district BDS team.
Narayanpur superintendent of police Robinson Guddia, additional SP Akshay Sabdra and additional SP (Naxal Ops) Ajay Kumar are leading intensified operations to make the district free of Maoist presence. Security forces have increased the frequency of de-mining and search operations to neutralise threats in remote forested areas.
The Kodliar-based district force, ITBP’s 53rd battalion “B” company and the Kutul BDS unit played a key role in the operation. Officials said that just two days earlier, on 25 September, security teams had recovered and destroyed five IEDs weighing five kilograms each in the same region.
The items recovered from the site included:
1. Explosives
2. Lithium batteries
3. Booby trap switches and other electrical switches
4. Walkie charger adapters
5. Maoist uniforms and belts
6. War materials including pouches, bags and related equipment
Police and paramilitary forces continue extensive search and de-mining operations across Maoist-affected parts of Narayanpur to ensure safety for security personnel as well as local villagers.
