PM Modi announces new job scheme on Independence Day

On the 79th Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana, a Rs 1 lakh crore employment scheme. Announcing it from the Red Fort, he said the initiative will transform opportunities for India’s youth.

“There is big news for the youth of the country,” PM Modi declared. “On this day, we are starting and implementing a scheme of Rs 1 lakh crore for the youth of my country,” he said.

Direct benefits for first-time job seekers

The scheme, effective from 15 August, provides ₹15,000 to youth entering the workforce for the first time. The central government will directly support freshers through this incentive.

The plan is expected to benefit 1.92 crore new employees, with payments made in two instalments over the first year. A portion of the funds will also be deposited into savings accounts to encourage financial discipline.

Incentives for companies to hire more

Alongside benefits for youth, companies that hire fresh graduates will receive government support. Employers will get up to ₹3,000 per employee for hiring new candidates.

Firms registered with the Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) will qualify for these benefits, provided employees stay for at least six months. The programme will run until 31 July 2027 and has a total allocation of ₹99,446 crore.

Eligibility criteria for the scheme

- The employee must be enrolling in EPFO for the first time.

- They must not have been part of EPFO or an Exempted Trust before 1 August 2025.

- Gross monthly salary should not exceed ₹1 lakh.

- EPF contributions should begin from August 2025 onwards.

- Employees must remain with the same company for at least six months.

- Companies must register with EPFO between 1 August 2025 and 31 July 2027.

How the scheme works

The scheme has been divided into two parts:

Part A – For first-time job seekers.

Employees will get ₹15,000 in two instalments after six and twelve months of service. This will directly support around 1.92 crore youth.

Part B – For enterprises.

Employers hiring new staff with salaries up to ₹1 lakh will get ₹3,000 per employee every month for two years. In manufacturing, this benefit will extend to four years.

Payments will be made at regular intervals, and all transactions will be processed via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) linked with PAN.

Vision for Viksit Bharat

The Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana aims to bridge the gap between job readiness and job creation. It not only empowers individuals but also boosts enterprises to expand their workforce.

By supporting both employees and employers, the government hopes to generate 3.5 crore jobs, enhance industrial productivity, and build a self-reliant India.

The scheme reflects the government’s broader vision of Viksit Bharat, acting as a catalyst for sustainable growth, youth empowerment, and inclusive economic progress.
