Global Communists Push LGBTQ Rights, Yet China Silences Them Within Its Borders

The recent rejection of a bill on same-sex marriage by China’s legislative body has once again exposed the hypocrisy of communism. On the one hand, global communist propagandists loudly advocate LGBTQ causes, celebrating same-sex marriage as a so-called progressive step. On the other hand, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), the flagbearer of this ideology, refuses to grant even limited recognition to same-sex unions within its own territory.

A Hong Kong bill proposing restricted legal rights for same-sex couples was struck down in the city’s Legislative Council. The proposal would have allowed couples who married overseas to register their partnerships locally and access certain rights, including medical information, decision-making in emergencies, and claims over funeral arrangements. Despite being limited in scope, the move was rejected outright by pro-Beijing lawmakers.

Communist Double Standards

Amnesty International criticised the rejection, claiming it displayed “alarming disdain” for LGBTQ rights. LGBTQ activists, too, called it a setback. Yet the real story is not about defending these activists but about the hypocrisy of the CCP. The same regime that projects itself as a champion of equality and liberation refuses to grant the very rights its global sympathisers promote.

The Communist system thrives on double standards. While it fuels propaganda abroad, it clamps down on freedoms at home. Hong Kong, once known for its open society, has been silenced since Beijing forced a sweeping national security law in 2020. Now, even basic debates like this are stifled under the iron grip of the CCP.

Authorities claimed that of 10,800 submissions on the bill, 80 percent were against it. Yet these numbers are hardly credible, as they reflect orchestrated campaigns and government-backed mobilisation rather than genuine public will. This mirrors how communist regimes operate globally — using numbers, slogans, and propaganda to cover up the suppression of freedom.

A History of Repression

China’s Marriage Law of 1980 clearly defined marriage as only between a man and a woman. In 2016, when Sun Wenlin and his partner Hu Mingliang sought marriage recognition in court, their plea was rejected despite public attention and protests. Their case exposed not only the intolerance of the state but also how the communist system suppresses any demand that challenges its rigid order.

Even reforms introduced in 2017, such as a guardianship system allowing same-sex couples limited rights in medical and property matters, fell far short of genuine recognition. In 2021, a woman could not even sue her partner of 50 years because their relationship was not legally recognised.

In 2023, a court briefly raised hope by directing the government to prepare a framework for limited recognition. But the CCP has now dashed even that, showing how it manipulates expectations to maintain absolute control.

Conclusion: A False Ideology on Both Fronts

The contradiction is stark. Communists worldwide present themselves as defenders of LGBTQ rights, while the CCP crushes those very demands inside China. This exposes communism not as an ideology of equality, but one of convenience and hypocrisy.

At the same time, the aggressive push of LGBTQ propaganda worldwide raises questions about its own agenda, which often clashes with cultural and social values. But in China’s case, the matter goes deeper. The CCP hides behind traditional rhetoric when convenient, while using liberal slogans abroad to influence global discourse.

The truth is that neither communism nor the radical LGBTQ agenda stand for genuine human dignity. Both are tools to disrupt, mislead, and control societies. The CCP’s ban on same-sex marriage is not about preserving values, but about maintaining power. And its global supporters, while promoting LGBTQ causes outside, remain silent about the oppression within China. This double game is the real face of communism: deceitful, opportunistic, and destructive.
